house update: the holidays are upon us!

the holidays are officially upon us here in plergville! we had a wonderful thanksgiving with our families here at our house….despite pauly and i getting what i can only assume was a flu bug of some sort.. but our families are amazing, and a good time was still had by all….i think. 🙂

sunday was the first night we were both feeling better so we decided to decorate the house for christmas!  i. (insert deep, manish voice) LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to decorate for christmas. and this being the first christmas in our new house we are/were extra pretty darn excited about it. *cue ‘josh groban holidays’ on pandora, hot cider, and every possible bulb, light, ribbon, and ornament we could find from the move.  here’s what we’ve done so far….and by so far i mean…i have yet to ‘just happen upon’ pier one and see what’s what.

(not great picture quality…this girl is asking for a real camera from santa this year…any suggestions on a good one??)

happy holidays!!

i took a little wreath and filled the center with a hurricane, candle and of course more cranberries! i think it's kinda cute..

it's the year of the 'ball' for our tree this year. i think we counted over 200 on the tree this year..

my mom picked up this adorable sparkly tree for me at west elm while she was here. sparkles are to christmas as air to life--necessary.

happy weekend!

we LOVE the chairs we found from world market! and the bench was free from friends! win. win.

house updates: sneak peek

last wednesday we officially did it! the plergs (paul + leah+ berg) packed our boxes and moved down the road, out of the city, and straight to the SUBURBS. to be honest, i cried the first night here. don’t get me wrong, i love our new place, but our condo in downtown was home. our house is starting to take the shape of ‘home’….but just not completely…not yet…

we’ve had a packed week though, with family, friends, and some awesome food (of course). and i MUST insert an official shout out to my parents here. they were UNREAL in our moving process. we worked them like DOGS every day they were here, and i can honestly say that we would have been (what’s the nice way of saying this….) ‘in a LOT of trouble’ if they had not offered their help! so thank you mom and dad! we cannot even begin to say thank you enough!!

so, i was hoping to have lots of pictures to share or do a little ‘home tour’ today, buuuuuuuuut……things are still a weeeeee bit messy and unorganized around this joint so you’ll just have to wait …..with bated breath, i’m sure..

here’s a little sneak peak, but much much much more to come! ……………okay…back to unpacking……

the only 'room' in our house that is even almost done is our entry way :) but i snagged this table from world market last night and it was really reasonably priced! plus free mirror from family friends and vase from the condo equals my bargain hunting itch getting sufficiently scratched in this nook.

house update: what the WHAT!?

yesterday we had our final walk through for the house! close date is next wednesday! CAN. YOU. BELIEVE. IT?! everything is pretty much finished….sidewalks and driveway are supposed to go in by monday too! sadly, no sod or landscaping until the spring. DANG this cold! DANG IT ALL TO H!!!

however……. i did have a small heart attack when we walked up to the house yesterday and saw this:

yeah.

yeah. giant chunk of roof gone….

apparently they had misread the plans and needed to correct the roof line here. seems like a lot of extra work for something we NEVER would have noticed, but…..whatever…...i have learned to just go with the flow on all things home building…..  haha kidding. but it is what it is.

in brighter news, my parents, sissiebear and bro-in-law are all here now too! so, it’s real! it’s happening! we are officially moving in! (cue nervous vomit: here). AND we FINALLY picked out a couch/living room furniture! although we of course waited until the 11th hour, and it won’t be delivered until mid december, i REALLY love what we picked and can’t wait to show you all pictures! AND AND! our table arrived! we had a big farm style table made for us by someone near to Fargo, and it’s beautiful! (and was really super inexpensive: win win.)  but….in true fashion of our home building experience, it was the wrong size in both length and width, and we have to send it back and get a replacement…(insert my new mantra here: ‘first world problems…first world problems…first world problems..’ ‘this is NOT a big deal…first world problems..’) all things considered things are really going well and we are so pumped for wednesday!

LOTS more to come! stay tuned!

house update: the final countdown

we are officially 9 days away from our close date!! SINGLE DIGITS Y’ALL!!! the house is pretty much finished on the inside, too. we will do a walk through this friday and make a list of any dings or marks or little fixes that need to happen before close, and then we are home free! just landscaping and TRIM FINISHES (*COUGH COUGH**) that need to happen!

my parents and sissiebear and brosef come in this weekend to help us move, and they are bringing the dining table we ordered! i can’t wait to see it.  you KNOW i’ll be posting like a fiend the next few weeks!

also a guarantee is that the amount of work that needs to be done will be increasingly inversely proportional to my motivation, so that means lots of blog posts and picture taking instead 🙂 i told myself, “just pack one box each night, and by the time you move you’ll be golden”……and then college leah decided to roll around again, and i was like “naaahhh  girl ….it’ll work out….i’ll just pack a TON on the day of and it will be fiiiiiiiiiiine.” so instead of proactively packing, i lay around on my phone and computer trying to distract myself from how much work needs to be done/how stressed i am about it.  oh and food and i have looooooong talks about it too. so there’s that.

okay here are the finished products from the kitchen and living/dining rooms! can’t wait to furnish!

we decided on pocket doors for our pantry and i am SO glad we did. it frees up a whole extra wall of space in there! (credit to pauly on that one.)

house update: the kitchen is almost done!

12 more days!!! 12 more days until we close on our house and officially become home owners! (cue mild heart attack: here.) so far, (minus the big trim debacle of 2013) everything has gone well and i am really liking our choices. it so hard to know if the tiiiiiiiiny sample piece you chose from will actually look good in your house, but so far so good. (knock on wood. toss some salt over my shoulder.)

here are a couple new pics! the kitchen was the room i was the most nervous about in this whole process… it’s my favorite room of the house, and we are in the kitchen all the time, so i wanted it to be…well…perfect… i am really thankful it has come together like we hoped it would.

oh!….the carpet is in now too so i will try to get some good pics of that up soon as well!

thanks for caring about our house 🙂

the kitchen in almost done! all the water is hooked up. waiting for the stove top to come in. and i can't WAIT for the paper to be removed from the floors!

we decided on a white, matte subway tile with sightly darker grout for the backsplash. i LOVE it.

these puppies arrived yesterday! our washer/dryer is on our upper level with all the bedrooms...making my cinderella work a little easier :)

house updates: the first snag…

so things have really been clicking along with the house lately…lots getting done, loving all the additions…and then…..(cue dramatic music here…) the outside trim went up.

the SECOND i saw it my stomach dropped. (and yes, i FULLY realize the phrase “first world problems” completely applies here..) but it was NOT the right color. we wanted a slightly off-white trim to counter balance the gray siding…how nice, right? yes. and… it would’ve been awesome, had we been given the right color…but we weren’t. we were given..what was is called again? oh yes: “gross cream-yellow pee-tinge”..by sherwin williams.

so after MUCH (let me be clear: MUCH!!!!) back and forth with the production company, our project manager, and sherwin williams themselves, we finally have a decision: maybe they will repaint it. maybe. they will let us know “soon”.

so, fingers crossed everyone! i know that these things are normal and probably should be expected when home-building, but things have been going so well thus far, and this was just a giant hole in our balloon of excitement. oh well. again, “first world problems..” it will be worked out, and if not, well, then, no one say anything to me about it ever when you come and visit.

but other than that, really great things are happening! check it out! oh! and november 13th is our close date!! so close!

SO....here's the trim as it stands now. yeah. not white right??!! yellow, right??!! yes. i am right.

but our floors are in!! i am LOVING the color and the wide planks! it's covered now so they can paint the walls.
